The Anaheim House of Blues Move

Have you heard the news? The Anaheim House of Blues in moving! After 15 years of Downtown Disney® being home to the House of Blues, the music venue is expanding. The new location won’t be far, just a couple miles down Katella Ave at the Anaheim GardenWalk. And only half a mile away from Grand Legacy At The Park!

The House of Blues franchise was founded in 1992 in Cambridge, Massachusetts by actor and musician, Dan Aykroyd and some of his famous buddies.  The movie The Blues Brothers, and the SNL skit that inspired it, which starred Aykroyd and John Belushi, inspired the name of the venue. There are now 13 locations in the United States. There was even a specially made House of Blues created for the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 2015, Aykroyd and Belushi’s widow also created Blues Brothers Records which is dedicated to signing and supporting blues musicians. Aykroyd said the company’s goal is “to find, develop and nurture emerging blues performers” and will partner with House of Blues to promote the artists signed to the label. So look forward to more blues artists at the new location!

The Anaheim Gardenwalk is already home to a variety of shops and restaurants that give visitors an alternative to eating at the Disneyland® Resort. The outdoor venue already includes well known brands such as P.F. Chang’s, the Cheesecake Factory, Johnny Rockets and more. It even has bowling alley! These activities, as well as the shops, means that going to a House of Blues concert can be so much more. To get a better idea of what the Gardenwalk looks like, watch our Youtube video “Exploring Anaheim”.

The House of Blues will take over the lot that formerly held the UltraLuxe Cinemas, giving them 40,000 square feet to work with! There are plans to not just have a larger concert hall, but also an open air patio and bar, a members only room, and a smaller room for more intimate performances. While we are sure they loved their Downtown Disney® location, they only had 23,000 square feet of venue space, and the popular concert destination outgrew their location.
